Leave me alone
("Bad"-album, 1987)
The message is very simple: Leave me alone! Briefly but to the point. In his autobiography writes the singer Michael Jackson that the song, which seems to describe a relationship between a girl and a boy, is anti personnel to all the people who bother him all the time. In this context he talks about the price of the success he has to pay and counts the loss of his privacy as an example. Especially the press plays an important role in it. Reporter want to get every information about Michael and very often they produce a wrong impression of him:
"The press has made me out to be this monster, this crazy person who's bizarre and weird. I'm nothing like that."
Il messaggio è molto semplice: Lasciami in pace! Breve ma dritto al punto. Michael Jackson rephrase his message "Leave Me Alone" in the song "Privacy". No lovestory. Instead a straighter Michael. He criticizes the reporter who would do everything to sell a story. They even put up with the death of their victims like the tragical story of princess Diana had shown. Michael reclaims his privacy: "So paparazzi get away from me." It is not only the rage and the hate against the press but also the fear of a man who could lose his integrity or more. After the car crash which induced the death of Michael's friend Princess Diana, who had to deal with the same problems, this fear kept its actuality. Michael appreciates this.
Michael Jackson riformula il messaggio di "Leave Me Alone" nella canzone "Privacy". No Love story. Invece, un Michael più schietto. Critica il giornalista che avrebbe fatto di tutto per vendere una storia. Hanno speculato con la morte delle loro vittime, come la storia tragica della principessa Diana. Michael reclama la sua privacy: "Dunque paparazzi, state lontani da me." "I'll be your everything if you make me a star." - Even though some papers wrote that this song was written for Diana Ross or Princess Diana the song tells another story. It's about a young girl who trys everything to get closer to her idol. She is assimilable to Billie Jean but fame is her only target. "Dirty Diana" represents like Billie Jean millions of young women who try everything to get control over their booty. In this song Diana seems to succeed with the help of her female stimuli.
"Sarò qualunque cosa se mi farai diventare una star". - Anche se alcuni giornali hanno scritto che la canzone è stata scritta per Diana Ross o la principessa Diana, la canzone racconta un'altra storia. In this song Michael Jackson trys to turn the tables. Contrary to the media he want to focus his attention on other things: "They say I’m different..they don’t understand...but there’s a bigger problem.. that’s much more in demand..."
Many examples of the imperfectness of our society follow: Poverty on the streets, violence among teenagers, corruption, problems with drugs, illiteracy and much more. Although these alarming grievances need a particular attention the public prefers to discuss the "strange behavior" of one single artist.
Problems which seems so overwhelming and need an immediately solution are pushed to the back of our minds and the press apply itself to other stories. This causes confusion and Michael asks rightfully: "Why you wanna trip on me?

Only a small number of Michael's songs are as straight as "Tabloid Junkie" which lay on rumors about Michael's privacy. The beginnig of the song, where you hear many well-known reports about Michael like the oxygen chamber-story, indicates the direction of the song. It settles up with all tabloid news. Michael want to show that you can't believe the press even if the reporting seems ever so real. He is hostile to the yellow press. He blames the tabloids for spreading lies and framing people. He points out not to buy such magazines because every sold exemplar supports this kind of reporting. Ha also explains that these articles can hurt like a sword.
Hardly another song sort better with the situation of Michael Jackson because he always seems to be the victim of many ridiculous rumors and frenzied speculations.
Tabloid Junkie isn't the only dispute with the negative press. Michael always lays emphasis on his deep disgust about the yellow press and he appeal to the public on every occasion not to believe these storys and not to buy such magazines.

The colour of the skin makes no difference. It could be so simple and everybody would believe that. Instead Michael Jackson is to blame for his skin disease again and again. But does that really fit to a man who is proud of his race, adores black artists like James Brown and Martin Luther King or donates thousands of dollars for more than 20 years to help organizations like the NAACP which fights against racism? The Answer is: NO!
Michael Jacksons merits in this case are more then the fact that he was one of the first black artists who were played on MTV in the beginning of the 80's.
Single lines of the song "Black Or White" are used to charm an admission of guilt. "I'm not gonna spend my life being a color." - A statement from the song "Black Or White". This line is just what the critcs were waiting for: Michael Jackson doesn't want to be black! But when you listen to the hole song you know what it is all about. A battle against prejudices and ignornace and Michael has to maintain this struggle although he demands equality.
This song is a serious attempt to cover the topic in a gentle way. There are no hostilities. Michael just trys to make his voice heard. He doesn't want to be one black or one white man. He just want to be human! That is the true message of the song. However it seems the critics missed this embassy while they were talking about Michael's appearance.

Invece Michael Jackson è stato criticato per via della sua malattia della pelle più e più volte. In questo caso i meriti di Michael Jacksons sono più del fatto che è stato uno dei primi artisti neri che è stato mandato in onda su MTV all'inizio degli anni '80.
Singole strofe della canzone "Black Or White" sono state utilizzate per carpire un'ammissione di colpa. "Non ho intenzione di passare la mia vita ad essere un colore." - Una citazione dalla canzone "Black Or White". Questa strofa è proprio quello che gli oppositori stavano aspettando: Michael Jackson non vuole essere nero! Ma quando si ascolta la canzone fino in fondo si capisce di cosa si tratta. Una battaglia contro i pregiudizi e l'ignoranza e Michael deve continuare questa lotta sebbene rivendichi l'uguaglianza.
Questa canzone è un serio tentativo di trattare l'argomento in modo gentile. Non ci sono ostilità. Michael prova solo a far sentire la sua voce. Non vuole essere un nero o un uomo bianco. Vuole solo essere un essere umano! Questo è il vero messaggio della canzone. Tuttavia sembra che gli oppositori abbiano perso questa ambasciata impegnati come erano a parlare dell'aspetto di Michael.

The duet with his sister Janet Jackson is a song about the burden which presses on Michael's shoulders.He feels pressed to the ground, extorted, under pressure, misunderstood and just want to scream. He not only talks about his own problems and feelings but also about the enervations and vast gaps of the whole system.
It seems as if no solution exists because everywhere you turn people mistreat other people, lies are disseminated and the rules are broken. Even in your own home your not safe from this insanity: "Oh, my God, can't believe what I saw as I turned on the TV this evening I was disgusted by all the injustice ... With such collusions don’t it make you wanna scream?"
Scream is like many other songs on the album "History" very autobiographical. It illustrates the pressure which the public exerts. Not only on Michael but also on itself so that it makes you wanna scream!
Il duetto con la sorella Janet Jackson è una canzone che parla del peso che grava sulle spalle di Michael. Si sente steso al suolo, estorto, sotto pressione, frainteso e vuole solo urlare. Lui non parla solo dei suoi problemi e sentimenti, ma anche degli indebolimenti e delle vaste lacune di tutto il sistema. Sembra non esserci una soluzione perché ovunque ti giri persone maltrattano altre persone, le bugie sono disseminate e le regole vengono infrante. Scream è come molte altre canzoni dell'album "History" molto autobiografica. Illustra la pressione che il pubblico esercita. Non solo su Michael, ma anche su se stesso tanto che ti fa venire voglia di urlare!

The song from the short-film “Ghosts” oozes with the sarcasm Michael uses to first fray his adversary (the major), then to face and encourage him to turn himself in. Michael alludes to the rumours surrounding him and to the offences against him. Angry he said: “Tired of you haunting me”… 2Bad also is an attack, similar to “DS”, against his well-known enemy Tom Sneddon, the former district attorney who had charged him wrongfully. And Michael makes sure that he won’t give way, he won’t run away from anything, no matter which dirty gimmicks his enemies will use – they won’t get him (down).
La canzone del cortometraggio "Ghosts" trasuda del sarcasmo che Michael utilizza prima per sfidare il suo avversario (il sindaco), poi per affrontarlo e incoraggiarlo a trasformarsi in se stesso. Michael allude alle voci che lo circondano e agli attacchi contro di lui. Arrabbiato dice: "Sono stanco di voi che mi perseguitate" ... 2Bad è anche un attacco, simile a "DS", contro il suo noto nemico Tom Sneddon, l'ex procuratore distrettuale che lo aveva accusato ingiustamente. Alongside the song in 1997 also the same titled short film of Michael Jackson was released. On the first view it all seems to be like a remake of the song “Thriller”. A ghost is mentioned which seems to be everywhere and haunts someone similar to the werewolf. It’s nowhere safe and someone’s afraid of the unknown. But finally the mystery of the unknown unravels and it becomes clear that it doesn’t relate to any bogey or wild creature but to the ghost of jealousy which seems to be a constant threatening for Michael.
While he was able in front of more than 20 years to sing a song like “Thriller” which was only be made up of pure entertainment, he now has to face up to the public which again and again tries to overthrow him so that he has to question himself consistently: Does this all happen because of jealousy? The answer to this everyone might find in him- or herself.
Accanto alla canzone nel 1997, è stato rilasciato anche il cortometraggio di Michael Jackson che ha lo stesso titolo. A prima vista tutto sembra essere come un remake della canzone "Thriller". È menzionato un fantasma che sembra essere ovunque e perseguita qualcuno come un lupo mannaro. Nessun posto è sicuro e si ha paura di un qualcuno sconosciuto. The song, released on the same album as “Ghosts” and also appearing in the same titled short film, has many similarities to the other song. However, its message is much clearer. While in “Ghosts” the question is if it treats of a ghost of jealousy, Michael Jackson very directly assumes in “Is It Scary” that he isn’t the eerie creature himself but that the evil would lurk elsewhere. “I’m tired of being abused. You know you’re scaring me too. I think the evil is you Is this scary for you?”
Michael is completely aware of the fact that he has been often seen as a jumping jack, as an abnormal figure that amuses the public, confused and frightened. Thereby he criticizes the bordered view of the public upon himself, because someone who wants to see the truth has to look right into his heart, which is lonely and hurt but this, as often, isn’t considered. And so Michael keeps on asking: “Is this scary? Am I scary?”
La canzone, pubblicata nello stesso album di "Ghosts" e che appare anche nel cortometraggio con lo stesso titolo, ha molte somiglianze con l'altro brano. This time around
("History"-album, 1995)
Together with two other songs on the HIStory-record ‘This Time Around’ is the first in a serial which deals with the accusation of sexual molestation of a minor, which were charged against Michael Jackson in 1993. Michael sings about, that “they” thought they got him, got hold of him and shot him down, that there were people who used him and accused him falsely. In-between there is a rap-part of Notorious BIG which says that one already has enough problems oneself and how unimportant a human being sometimes is to others. The expression “my Nigga MMike” can be understood as an allusion to a racist motive.
Insieme ad altre due canzoni dell'album HIstory, 'This Time Around' è la prima di una serie che si occupa dell'accusa di molestie sessuali su un minore, che è ciò di cui era stato accusato Michael Jackson nel 1993. Michael canta, che "loro" pensavano di averlo beccato, catturato e abbattuto, che c'erano persone che lo avevano usato e lo accusavano falsamente. In mezzo c'è una parte rap di Notorious BIG che dice che uno ha già abbastanza problemi per i fatti propri e così a volte un essere umano è poco importante per gli altri. Money
("History"-album, 1995)
‘Money’ is the third song in a serial of indignant cries for a hearing and of abreaction of hurt feelings. It deals with the power of money which carries many to everything. Michael accused “the people” of lying for money, of spying, of killing and even of dying for it. He pillories those with a great text which is full of allegories of misusing him for their own advantage in a devilish game about power and greed. His fury, sadness and his horror about the happenings becomes very visible in the discourse about the “God Money”.
“And when you say you wouldn’t do anything for money, ha, I don’t believe it!”
Whoever listens to this song carefully and understands the lyrics can comprehend how astute Michael Jackson is – and how much it must have hurt him what had happened.
'Money' è il terzo brano in una serie di grida indignate per farsi ascoltare e di abreazione dei sentimenti feriti. Tratta del potere del denaro che porta molti a tutto. Michael accusa "le persone" di mentire per soldi, di spionaggio, di uccidere e perfino di morire per esso. Egli li mette alla berlina con un grande testo, che è pieno di allegorie sull'abuso che si fa di lui a proprio vantaggio in un gioco diabolico di potere e avidità. La sua furia, la tristezza e il suo orrore per gli avvenimenti diventa molto visibile nel discorso sul "Dio denaro".

Stranger in Moscow
("History"-album, 1995)
Michael Jackson:
“‘Stranger in Moscow’ was written, uh, when I was in Moscow on the ‘Dangerous’-Tour. And it was just a strange, eerie, lonely time for me. Outside my hotel was just a sea of faces of… of fans chanting and screaming. But I was inside my room and I felt so all alone, like I was the last person of the planet. And in the song I say ‘How does it feel when you’re alone and you’re cold inside.’ uh, I say ‘It’s like a stranger in Moscow’ and that’s pretty much how I felt. And the people were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. And the concert was very successful, but, uhm, that day, especially that day, I just felt this different feeling and the song ‘Stranger in Moscow’ came to me. So, that’s how it was written.”
Here as well the connection can be found in the allegations of sexual molestation of a child back in 1993. Shortly after he was informed about the accusation he visited Moscow, the capital of Russia within the scope of the Dangerous World Tour in September. And he writes that he, although he was surrounded by people and thousands of cheering fans camping before his hotel, felt completely alone. Alone and abandoned in is fame and his emotional pain. The private Armageddon of the mind, the decline of the own pluckiness. Hence the wonderful, gloomy ballad which deals with the feelings of a “Stranger in Moscow”. Finding oneself in this ambivalence between “everything and nothing”, surrounded by uncountable people and still being completely reduced to oneself. The most known person in the world in his own, private Armageddon, in his special way of attritional loneliness.

Anche in questo caso può essere trovato un collegamento con le accuse di molestie sessuali su un bambino del 1993. “Cry” is at the same time a very personal song as well as one which calls on someone to stand up and change the world. It’s a matter of loneliness in the world today, in which every single human hardly is recognized with his or her problems and worries (including him?). The writer (of the song) speaks very intensely about the fact that behind a smile often hides sadness but also about not to give up, not to lose courage because anytime the miracles (of love) may occur. The song reassures not to give up despite all adversities – all you have to do is to reach out for the truth and to make a contribution in changing the world.
Although it may not was Michael’s intention the song causes a deep connection among the fans because for them it represents the trial, Michaels position in it and the nerve-racking waiting for the verdict: “Somebody's missing a friend, hold on. Somebody's lacking a hero and they have not a clue when it's all gonna end… Stories buried and untold, someone is hiding the truth… Faces fill with madness, miracles unheard of, hold on. "Cry" è allo stesso tempo una canzone molto personale e una canzone che chiede a qualcuno di alzarsi e cambiare il mondo. Ha a che fare con la solitudine nel mondo di oggi, in cui ogni singolo essere umano difficilmente viene riconosciuto con i suoi problemi e le preoccupazioni (lui compreso?). L'autore (della canzone) parla con molta intensità del fatto che dietro un sorriso spesso si nasconde tristezza, ma anche che non si deve rinunciare, non perdere il coraggio, perché in qualsiasi momento possono verificarsi i miracoli (dell'amore). La canzone rassicura di non mollare, nonostante tutte le avversità - tutto quello che devi fare è raggiungere la verità e dare un contributo per cambiare il mondo.
Anche se poteva non essere nell'intenzione di Michael la canzone crea un profondo legame tra i fans perché per loro rappresenta il processo, la posizione di Michael in esso e la snervante attesa del verdetto: "A qualcuno manca un amico, resisti.. A qualcuno manca un eroe e non hanno idea di quando tutto finirà... Storie sepolte e mai rivelate, qualcuno sta nascondendo la verità, resisti... Volti pieni di follia, miracoli mai uditi, resisti. D.S. stands for the initials of Dom Sheldon and it is not really a secret that thet T.S. (Thomas Sneddon) is meant. The district attorney who persecuted Michael Jackson over several years and wanted to jail him for child molestation. Michael probably wrote the song in 1994 although we know today that he should be chased by this man until the definite acquittal in June 2005. Even back then Michael found very direct words for the district attorney who he named “a cold man” in the chorus again and again who wants to get him dead or alive. Michael blamed ‘D.S.’ of malpractice. He accused him of having no manners and his name is mentioned in a breath with questions about collaboration with the FBI or the KKK. It seems as if Michael Jackson knows his opponent very well.
D.S. sta per le iniziali di Dom Sheldon ma in realtà non è un segreto che si riferisce a T.S. (Thomas Sneddon), il procuratore distrettuale che ha perseguitato Michael Jackson per molti anni anni e che lo voleva in galera per molestie su minori. Michael probabilmente ha scritto la canzone nel 1994, anche se oggi sappiamo che gli ha dato la caccia fino alla sentenza di assoluzione definitiva nel giugno 2005.
