Michael Jackson era un ottimo cliente e molto timido - dice lo scultore spagnolo Xavier Benlloch

L'artista Xavier Benlloch ricorda Michael Jackson come un ottimo cliente e molto timido, che mandava il suo manager a guardare il suo lavoro ogni volta prima di andare personalmente ad acquistare il pezzo che preferiva fra le opere d'arte.

A Pune per la sua mostra, questo scultore e pittore proveniente da Ibiza ha parlato del Re del Pop, della famiglia Chaplin e altro ancora.

"Michael Jackson ha visitato il mio studio diverse volte ,la prima opera che ordinò fu un Peter Pan gigante per Neverland", ricorda Benlloch che ha anche creato una scultura su misura in bronzo di Charlie Chaplin per la casa di Chaplin ,a Los Angeles.

Jackson preferiva maggiormente le sculture di Benlloch ispirate ai cartoni animati, mentre la famiglia Chaplin ha sempre scelto dalla collezione delle sue opere d'arte più realistiche

L'ultimo dipinto che Benlloch ha venduto a Jackson prima della sua morte è stata una piccola immagine ispirata a Betty Boop, un personaggio dei cartoni animati creato da Max Fleischer e Grim Natwick nel 1930. Oltre ad avere Chaplin e Jackson come i suoi clienti, Benlloch vanta una lunga lista di star di Hollywood fra i suoi acquirenti, di cui preferisce non parlare.

"Le celebrità sono persone molto normali. Sono appassionate d'arte, hanno gusto e sono culturalmente sensibili", spiega. Tuttavia, Benlloch parla raramente degli incontri con loro "sono faccende personali dei suoi clienti."

"Quando Jackson comprava le mie opere d'arte, ne era letteralmente affascinato, è come una questione di cuore. Non aveva nulla a che fare con lo status di celebrità insita in lui", scherza. Oltre alle celebrità di Hollywood , Benlloch si rivolge a una vasta gamma di clienti tra cui designer, architetti e appassionati d'arte. "Condivido un rapporto molto stretto, creativo e leale con tutti loro", aggiunge. Nel breve lasso di tempo che trascorrerà nella città (di Pune), Benlloch vuole catturare "tutta l'arte da ogni angolo."

Artist Xavier Benlloch remembers Michael Jackson as a nice and shy client who would send his manager to look at his work every time before he came to purchase his favourite piece of art work. In Pune for his exhibition, this Ibiza based sculptor and painter spoke about the King of Pop, the Chaplin family and more. "Michael Jackson visited my studio several times before he ordered a giant Peter Pan for Neverland," recalls Benlloch who also made a custommade bronze sculpture of Charlie Chaplin for the Chaplin home in Los Angeles. Jackson preferred more of Benlloch's cartoon sculptures while the Chaplins picked from the collection of his realistic art work series.

The last painting that Benlloch sold to Jackson before his death was a small figurine inspired by Betty Boop, an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer and Grim Natwick in the 1930s. Other than having Chaplin and Jackson as his clients, Benlloch boasts of a long list of Hollywood stars in his buyers' list which he did not like disclosing.

"Celebrities are very normal people. They are fond of art, have taste and are culturally sensible," he explains. However, Benlloch seldom likes to reveal "personal things about his clients."

"When Jackson bought my works of art, he fell in love with them which is a matter of the heart. It had nothing to do with the celebrity status he had with him," he quips. Apart from Hollywood celebs, Benlloch caters to a host of clients including designers, architects and other art lovers. "I share a very close, creative and loyal relation with all of them," he adds. In the short span of time that he will spend in the neighbouring city, Benlloch wishes to capture "all the art from every corner."
