Testo: It shouldn't make a difference if your name is #MichaelJackson. We followed the Rolling Stone's rape story case with great interest because we can easily recognize the same violations by the press when it comes to him. The fact-checking process always fails to be done yet it would be so easy to go efficiently in it given the massive number of documents that are available to write fairly about Mr. Jackson.
The FBI files, the DCFS investigation, the court transcripts: everything clears Mr. Jackson of any wrongdoing. But from tabloids to the most credited newspaper they don't ever bother mentioning any of them whenever a dude wakes up one morning to seek money from Michael Jackson's empire. They can't help but remember that Michael Jackson was found NOT GUILTY on all 14 counts in 2005 but they don't explain that the verdicts were substantiated by the total lack of evidence that Michael Jackson ever committed such horrible actions.
The only crime has been committed against journalism over and over again when the lies are sold as the truth. We could make a never-ending list of such journalistic malpractice specifically in regards to Michael Jackson showing time after time that "arrogance of reporters and editors who violate the basic rules of journalism - make things up, embrace confirmation bias, ignore exculpatory evidence, over-rely on single sources, over-rely on anonymous and pseudonymous sources, neglect to pursue potentially exculpatory leads - to get the story".
We make our plea to you as a reporter who seems to be very concerned about this criminal deviation from the fundamentals of journalism worthy of being called so. It has to be a concern that does always count. Also when your name is Michael Jackson.
