For anyone even vaguely interested in the music industry, this testimony from Michael Jackson’s 2005 trial is a must-read. The witness is David LeGrand, a corporate lawyer hired by Michael Jackson in 2003 to replace and investigate some of his former associates (including lawyer John Branca, who now serves as trustee of Jackson’s estate). LeGrand fired Branca on Jackson’s behalf. A letter from Jackson ordered Branca to turn over all paperwork to his new legal representatives.
(Funny, then, that when Jackson died, Branca should turn out to be in possession of ‘Michael Jackson’s will’, on which Jackson’s own name is incorrect, his children’s names are incorrect, Branca is named as executor of the Estate, and the witnesses wrote that Jackson had signed the will in Los Angeles on a date when he’s since been proven to have been in New York.)
LeGrand was called as a defence witness in Jackson’s trial after prosecutors claimed Jackson had been involved in a ‘conspiracy’ with his associates. His testimony was designed to show that if anything, Jackson was the victim of a conspiracy by his associates. Prosecutors ultimately never produced any evidence of Jackson’s involvement in any conspiracy and he was unanimously acquitted on the charge.
During his testimony, LeGrand repeatedly referred to an investigation he’d had commissioned into John Branca and Sony boss Tommy Mottola. The preliminary investigation report said there was evidence that Branca had been representing Sony at the same time he was representing Jackson, causing a major conflict of interest. It also said there was evidence that Branca and Sony had been depositing Jackson’s money into an off-shore bank account in an effort to defraud him.
None of the evidence was sent to LeGrand with the initial report. The investigation was ongoing at the time. Shortly after receiving the report, one of the subjects – a Jackson associate who was still on the team – arranged for his employment to be terminated.

LeGrand fu chiamato come testimone della difesa nel processo a Jackson dopo che i magistrati hanno affermato Jackson era stato coinvolto in un ' complotto ' con i suoi collaboratori . La relazione di indagine preliminare ha detto che vi era la prova che Branca rappresentava Sony al tempo stesso che rappresentava Jackson , causando un grave conflitto di interessi . E ' anche detto che c'era la prova che Branca e Sony avevano depositato denaro di Jackson in un conto bancario off shore nel tentativo di frodare lui.
Nessuno degli elementi di prova è stato inviato a LeGrand con la relazione iniziale . L'indagine era in corso in quel momento. Poco dopo aver ricevuto la relazione, uno dei soggetti - un socio che Jackson era ancora sulla squadra - organizzato per il suo lavoro da terminare.

Nothing surprises me anymore, when it comes to those people who was supposed to have worked for Michael `s best interests, no wonder he was not sure who he could trust
