"Michael stava crescendo e voleva sperimentare libero dalle restrizioni del gruppo di "WestlaKe", è per questo che chiese a me e a John Barnes di lavorare, saltuariamente, nel suo studio di casa per un anno e mezzo.
Programmava, maneggiava e costruiva gran parte delle canzoni del disco, poi mandava ciò che risultava ai WestlaKe Studios, inciso su nastro due pollici, e loro erano liberi di registrare il materiale, aggiungendo cose come archi o ottoni a loro discrezione.
E' così che MJ ha cominciato ad esprimere la sua indipendenza creativa, come un ragazzo che lascia il nido un pò alla volta."
"Michael was growing and wanted to experiment freely from the restrictions of the group of "Westlake", that's why he asked me and John Barnes to work,occasionally in his studio at home for a year and a half.
He was planning, handled and built most of the songs on the disc, then he would send the result to the Westlake Studios, recording it on tape, and they were free to record the material, adding things like strings or brass at their discretion.
